The root canal procedure begins with your dentist anesthetizing the tooth and the area around it. Your dentist will then create an opening through the root canal into the pulp chamber and remove any infected or inflamed tissue. They will then clean the root canal and prepare the area for the next stage of root canal treatment: filling. Your dentist will fill the opening with a permanent material to keep the root canals free of infection or contamination, and the endodontic services are finished off with a crown, which prevents irregularities in the appearance of the tooth.
